Random Dice Beginner Guide: SP, Merging, Power-Ups and Building Your First Deck
Updated: October 28, 2026
Random Dice: PvP Defense has over 10 million downloads on Google Play and is still running alongside the new sequel. If you're starting out, or warming up for Random Dice 2, here's how the game actually works and how to build a first deck that wins.
How a match works
- Bring a five-dice deck. Only these five types can appear on your board.
- Spend SP to summon. SP comes from killed monsters. Each summon puts a random die from your deck on a random empty tile of your 15-tile board, and the cost rises with each summon.
- Merge. Drag a die onto another of the same type and pip count. The result is a random die from your deck with one more pip. More pips mostly mean faster attacks.
- Power up. Spend SP on a dice type's power-up to make every die of that type stronger for the rest of the match.
- Survive. In PvP, every monster that leaks through costs a life. Bosses and some dice can interfere with your opponent's board.

Class levels and why they matter
Outside matches, collecting copies of a die and spending gold raises its class level, which raises its base stats permanently. Class levels are the main long-term progression, so focus your gold on the dice in the deck you actually play rather than levelling everything.
Dice rarities
There are 103 regular dice: 9 Common, 12 Rare, 25 Unique and 57 Legendary, plus a few event dice. Legendaries are the strongest but slowest to level. See the full dice list.
Dice every beginner should know
- Mimic: merges with any die of the same pip count. It fixes bad boards, which is why it appears in many decks.
- Growth: gains a pip on a timer, giving free value over time.
- Joker: copies the die it's merged onto, letting you double up on your best die.
- Crack: marks the lead enemy so it takes more damage, a common support pick.
- Sacrifice: merge it to get SP back, which speeds up your economy.
Building your first deck
A reliable deck usually has:
- One or two main damage dice, ideally ones you've levelled.
- A support die that slows enemies or boosts damage.
- One or two flexible dice such as Mimic, Joker or Growth to keep merges working.
Try a proven setup from the decks page, check the tier list, then adjust it in the deck builder and share it.
Game modes
- PvP: real-time 1v1 against other players worldwide, with ranked seasons.
- Co-op: team up with a partner against waves and bosses.
- Solo and special challenges such as Mirror Mode.
- Crew battles: battles with your crew (clan).

Common beginner mistakes
- Merging too early. Merging always gives a random die, so don't merge your best die away unless you need the space or the pip.
- Ignoring power-ups. Power-ups apply to every die of that type, so they're often worth more than another summon.
- Spreading gold. Level the five dice you play, not your whole collection.
- Copying a deck without the levels. Meta decks assume levelled Legendaries; start with dice you have.
